We are all fed first from the hands of another human being.
I am interested in food as a source of energy for both body and soul, but not only that. Food encompasses ephemerality and tradition, beginnings and ends, life and death counterbalancing one another. We all carve our own relationship with food based on our surroundings. It is our deepest connection to the land and a strong thread holding us together.
The images I create focus on how the human and nature relationship manifests subliminal gestures that so often betray our environmental concerns. I draw repetitive lines that grow together to create texture, and the images emerge as an attempt to reconcile these elements, by creating a fluid interaction between them. On the surface, the undulating patterns depict movement and human figures in contact with nature. Beneath the surface, they give life to ideas of interconnectedness and interdependence.
Some of these figures seem to be trapped in their realities, while others appear to be unaware of their environments. Appearances aside, there is no true separation, we are all of a single underlying substance.
