b 1989 in Austria. Lives and works in Düsseldorf.
The more intensively I dealt with photography over the last years, the clearer and simultaneously more indefinable the act of taking images got to me; according to the sentence: The more I shoot, the less I understand.
Formerly working only analog, in a linear progression of separate projects, my work began shifting into a kind of hybrid constellation, in which several projects influence one another and in which the associative process is key. For my actual series of pictures I was working with my own images as well as from the internet or from advertising. Even if the original in the final image is hidden or obscured due to a process of radical deconstruction, compression or other digital manipulation, it should still remain subliminal. The (de)construction or manipulation of an image does not necessarily disconnect that image from reality, moreover the images develop a new richness, are haunting monuments of a paradoxical world, with a lack of intimacy and personal traces, and reveal the artifice of image-making.
By framing subjects such as the sky, city or landscape so that nearly all narrative elements are reduced to composition or fields of color, they lose their original form and function. They become a landscape of the imagination in which I reproduce the feelings evoked by the anonymity, blandness and uniformity of the modern landscape and it‘s inherent shortcomings as well as rapid technological advancements. The search for emptiness, the aim of simplicity, spaciousness and serenity often results in an unusual and aesthetic form of minimalism and a specific balance between presence and absence.
