Timo Behn

b 1973 Jena, Germany. Lives and works in Berlin.

Timo Behn’s paintings can be formally divided into two categories: the figurative work and the abstract work, which frequently deals with an antagonism between an exact geometric form and a deconstructing, dissecting treatment of the surfaces.

Behn works mainly in large formats (2 m × 2.8 m), in small formats (from 30 × 40 cm) often in series, as shown in Basel in 2012.

Predominant in Behn’s sculptural work are variations on the themes of his abstract painting. In the exhibition “5 Minuten vor der Angst” (“5 minutes before the fear”) in Berlin, he showed a walk-through labyrinth, consisting of shapes and passages similar to abstract paintings from his series “Das große Kreischen” (“The Great Screaming”), which was shown at the art cologne in the same year.

After the Fall of the Wall he moved to Franconia. From 2001, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, and was appointed Meisterschüler of Ottmar Hörl in 2007.
