Aleksandra Prusinowska

An attempt to describe the most characteristic features of Aleksandra’s artistic activity in a short text may turn out to be insufficient. Aleksandra’s works are diversified, intellectually interesting, with inspiring themes and in experimental forms. There is no doubt that she creates her own individual style in her artistic search. At a first glance we notice her free mix of conventions, reaching for pop culture patterns, reference to films, advertisements, press photos or comic strips with their particular way of cropping pictures (Fun, Star Pilots, Name-day). A woman’s figure is a frequently used motif, painted in a hyper-realistic way, placed in decorations on bed linen or a housecoat, in some interiors. Women are asleep, between awakening and sleep, defenseless but unpredictable (Fur coat, Nap, Meadow). Another way of portraying female figures is a flat, dark silhouette, without individual features but in moving, acting, in full dynamics (Deliberations, Fun). The expression means can be associated with a collage or cutout techniques, while obviously not being them (War, Yard). There are colourful drapes, patterned wallpaper referring to pop art in Aleksandra’s numerous pictures. Saturated colours enhance the picture narrations and affect us with their own values. Colour, also present in her graphic works, is depicted as a source of energy, something necessary to live (Meal).
