Angela Cremer

In her works, Angela Cremer searches for the meaning of painting, in the context of contemporary art. Her interest lies in questioning the balance between surface, material and motif, as well as in the possibility of painting to transmit beyond language. The artist questions the limits of painting and tries to exceed and extend these limits.
Proximity to and separation from craft and design are explored through materials, a choice of motives leaning towards the ornamental and a monotonous belaboring of the surface in layers.
If we think about all the mass media, all the messages and images that surround us, in contrast Angela Cremer’s works offer a moment of immersion – similar to diving into water: still, unclear, floating, slow and free of the pressure to create meaning. The process of observing itself gains in importance.
