Aramis Navarro

b 1991 Wollishofen, Zurich. Lives and works in Zurich.

My emotions, thoughts and knowledge are all reflected in my work – with every brushstroke, and in all steps of the process

ARTIST STATEMENT

I attentively follow what happens around me – regardless if it’s a statement or action of a friend, a speech from a politician or the content of a seemingly inconsequential article in a newspaper.
I see myself as a scientist or a developer and also work as such, very patiently and with perseverance. The mental preparation often needs more time than the actual creating process. After all the planning is over, I fall into a focused, flowing and intuitive working-phase, that often proceeds in a fast tempo. Followed by a phase of completion and perfection, where every stroke gets reflected in my mind, I review it’s effectiveness on the canvas.
During those magic moments, when my brush hits the canvas, my paintings create themselves practically on their own. The content of my paintings and objects mostly don’t decipher the observer at the first moment.
Hidden in the artworks, you can find symbols, faces, gestures and often also words and numbers. These invite the observer into an emotional, imaginary and adventurous journey. I don’t tell the observer what he has to see, understand or feel when he looks and my artwork. I’m just happy when my paintings and sculptures are on the observer’s minds and maybe touch them in some kind of way – even when their interpretation differs from mine.
Those interactions between artists and observers will always fascinate me.
